The Most Important Factor On Your Site
I just read some comments by some self proclaimed "enlightened" young designers with far too much time on their hands, about their thoughts on web design.
Of course it came with a good dose of a "right and wrong ways to use web resources" lecture. Funny, I couldn’t find either of them in Google for what should be their site keyword. I get a little bit of a kick out of some folks who try to claim some kind of "high ground" when it comes to using the internet.
These would be the same people who can’t win an election, so they’ll try to pass laws, and make everybody else do things "their" way whether they like it or not. In any case, the point of this rant is the most important factor on your page. I mentioned the school-age designers above to illustrate how different everyone’s ideas are about the right and wrong way to do things on the web.
That’s important, because if your designer has a different agenda than you do, you’re probably not going to get what you want from your Internet presence.
So what’s the most important factor on your page? The point of action. Your "most wanted response". Whether it’s a shopping cart button, a contact form or an ad you want them to click. It needs to work, and it needs to be "framed " correctly in the content of the page.
It’s not about the "design" of the header, or the "originality" of the artwork, or the compliance of the code. It’s about getting your site to make you more money and add to your business the way that you need it to. In a brick and mortar business it’s the "point of sale", on the web, it’s your "point of action".
