Web Designer vs Website Owner
Being a website owner gives you a different perspective. There’s less room for "creative outlet" and more demand for "bottom line productivity".
That’s just common sense. Or so you would think. It’s amazing to me how many web designers don’t begin with the end in mind, the owner’s end in mind that is. As an owner, you may feel the temptation to satisfy that burning desire to have that blaze orange header with the electric green graphic of your logo pasted in the upper right hand corner.
No matter how good you think it looks, and no matter how much you feel like the rest of the world just "needs to see it too", you need to resist that because unless you’re building a site for Nickelodeon, that site is not going to convert well for your accounting practice.
Some web designers get more wrapped up in the "vision" they have for your site concept, than your "vision" for the income that you need that site to bring in.
It’s important then, when you choose a web designer, that he or she be on your page. If you are not sure how anything should look, make sure you relay that. At that point, what you need to get accross is what you want the end result to be, and leave it to the web designer to achieve that for you.
